"So Much Better", Evan Olson

Updated: Jun 6, 2021

“Better than a ticket to a Holyfield ringside Better than the daughter of a sultan for a bride Better than the cherry on a whipped cream sundae Better than a week that'll never have a Monday”

"So Much Better" by Evan Olson

This Time It All Started With…

a podcast called “#158 The Case of the Missing Hit” by a group called Reply All (a.k.a. PJ Vogt and Alex Goldman).

This podcast episode is about a film director from Los Angeles, Tyler Gillet, who needs Super Tech Support. Why, you ask? Well, let me give you a brief summary of his dilemma.

Tyler was driving home with his wife from a dinner party and started singing a song that has been stuck in his head. After trying to find the song on a streaming platform or the internet to play to his wife (because she didn’t recognise it) he could not find it anywhere!

Almost as if it never existed...

Now this isn’t an ordinary podcast topic. It’s almost as if it is out of a movie, because how does a song just go missing?

Tyler is convinced it was a big hit during the 90s when he was in high school and that it played on all the radio stations.

Tyler asked PJ (one of the hosts of the podcast) to help him find this song.

Now, I really don’t want to spoil the whole investigation journey for you but it’s difficult to tell you about this week’s song without spoiling anything…

Therefor, dear reader…spoiler alert ahead!

Stop reading right now if you want to go listen to the podcast first! (To listen to the podcast, click here)

After the two had gone through several obstacles (like trying to record the whole song with all the lyrics that Tyler could remember and then plug it into a system like Shazam to get a result) and after they had spoken to several specialists within the music industry, they finally found the song!

I highly suggest you go listen to the podcast, because it’s really interesting to hear some of the interviews they had with the specialists and producers in order to locate this song.

Anyways…long story short, the song is called “So Much Better” by Evan Olson and what a jam it is!

The intro consist of what sounds like a flute, the verses sound like a Barenaked Ladies song and the choruses sounds like a U2 song (if you didn't know this song was a real song written by a guy called Evan Olson, you would have thought someone mashed up a U2 song with a Barenaked Ladies song). The lyrics are also incredibly random and acts as a list.

Listening to this song is an experience in itself.

So I dare you, dear reader. Mentally prepare yourself for a rollercoaster journey and then grab you headphones and enjoy the ride!

Lyrics

Long before I had you in my dreams You came and captured my imagination Though some things are never what they seem I never had to worry 'cause I know you are

Better than the Venus De Milo in a g-string Better than the promise of a good one night fling Better than a big book of Bettie Page pictures Even if it came with a year subscription Better than a ticket to a Holyfield ringside Better than the daughter of a sultan for a bride Better than the cherry on a whipped cream sundae Better than a week that'll never have a Monday

Share your love with me tonight (yeah) I wanna feel that love

Long before I looked into your eyes I saw a million stars start flashin' Even though sometimes I wondered why I never have to worry what you are, ooh

You're better than a bag full of Benjamin Franklins Better than the keys to a brand new Lincoln Better than the winnings of a New York Lotto Even if it came with a new house and an auto And you're better than a year on a paid vacation Better than a brand new year celebration Better than a day full of Seinfeld humor And you're better than hearing a celebrity rumor

Share your love with me tonight (oh) I wanna feel that love

Share your love with me tonight I wanna feel that love

Share your love with me tonight
